It was super happy because at the time, no one had cancer (that we knew of), no one was sick...everyone was happy and healthy and excited about Jonathan joining our family!
I was due April 24, 2008. My cousin Sarah was getting married April 19, 2008 and I really wanted to attend her wedding! I was so happy when we were able to see Sarah and Adrian tie the knot and enjoy their wonderful wedding reception with family!
That night after the wedding, in the middle of the night, I lost something that you need to lose before you go into labor. I am not going to say what it was, because it is a really gross term (and it was not my water breaking)...okay it involves the word 'plug' and that is all I am say! I knew exactly what it was and I was so excited. I got back into bed, it was about 4 am, Michael was sleeping, and I just laid there smiling. I knew Jonathan would be here soon!
Around 5 or 6 pm the next day, April 20 (Sunday), I started having contractions. We timed them for the rest of the evening...they were all over the place. We ate Whataburger for dinner. Finally around 10:30 pm they were about 5 minutes apart and constant. We got the okay from the on call doctor and started to head into the hospital!!! It was so exciting!
We had decided not to call anyone until we knew something was happening and that the doctor said, "You’re in labor, we are checking you in". But the drive to the hospital I just had to call mom! I will never forget that phone call. I told her that we were heading to the hospital, but we weren't sure if this was the real deal or not and she and dad should stay put until I call them with more info. I was very calm and clear...then I hear dad in the background, "what is she saying? What is going on?" and mom replies in a very excited tone to him, "She's having the baby and she won't let us come to the hospital!!!!" I scream, "MOM!! That isn't at all what I said!!! Just stay put, I will call you!!!" hahaha - I love her, and miss her.
We were checked in, but it took FOREVER, a couple of hours at least. So I finally called mom and dad and told them that we were in, but things were progressing slowly and I would call if things started to pick up.
I was doing great, we were even able to sleep just a little bit, but then my contractions were less than a minute apart, and that made it difficult to sleep. So I called down to get my epidural. I got that around 3 or 4 am. In the mean time, I was only dilated 2. We got a little more sleep, then around 5 or 6 the doctor came and broke my water...that was weird. At 7 am my doctor officially took over. Yeah! I love him!
Michael and I decided to call the family and tell them to come on down, things were looking like they were starting to happen! It seemed to me that Mom, Dad and Amy were there within minutes, but I am sure that it took longer. We all hung out and talked for most of the morning...no big deal. Around 11 or so my nurse suggested I try to get some more sleep, so she kicked the family out. Around 1 is when Pat, Theron and Anna Marie arrived.
Around 2 or so my doctor arrived and told me things weren't moving like they want them to and it seemed that Jonathan was stuck and his head was now swollen. They were going to do a C-Section at 3:00 pm. This of course sent me into panic, sadness, scared, crying...all sorts of things.
But thankfully, all was fine. The surgery went well and we had a beautiful, healthy, sweet, awesome, a little bit cone headed baby at 3:25 on April 21st. Michael and I were beside ourselves with joy!
That was a Monday and we stayed until Thursday morning. Here are A LOT of pictures of that time, I picked some of my favorites. Please enjoy Jonathan's first week of life.
