Jonathan Turns 5

Jonathan turning 5 was a really big deal for me. It just seems so old! It means that Michael and I have been parents for FIVE years...I have been a stay-at-home-mom for FIVE years...this little baby is FIVE years!!! WHAT? It all seemed to go by so fast!
He is such an amazing little/big guy! He is so smart, sweet, loving, and creative, it is so easy to love him! Everywhere we go, people stop to talk to him and he is so respectful and sweet, you can tell they are surprised to have such a good conversation with such a young guy!
He LOVES his daddy more than anything on this earth, and I know Michael feels the same way. They are attached at the hip, especially on the weekends. He loves to cuddle up with me and we have long talks. He and I love working on art projects together. He is the best big brother any boy could ask for. He is patient and kind with Ben, but best of all, he teaches Ben all sorts of things. They play so well together, it is such a great thing to witness.

So on J's actual Birthday, which was the day after the big party, we decided we had to do something special, but low key. We had saved the gifts from Michael and me to give him on the actual day. His first bike, which J asked for and his first guitar, he asked for that too!
Later we took the boys to Rainforest Cafe for dinner. It has become kind of a tradition...see the last pictures!
It was a fun day, we were happy to celebrate our sweet little/big guy!

His first bike!!

He is having a ball riding his first bike around!

Jonathan also asked for a guitar - "a REAL one". So we got him a Jr Guitar. We thought that Ben would want one too, so we got him this 3-in-1 Keyboard, Drum and Guitar! They are so cute with them!

Yay! We are at the Rainforest Cafe!

Looking at the fishes!

Me and an elephant!

A balloon lady made Jonathan a parrot for his shoulder! It was do funny! He was so excited about it!

We ordered Jonathan the Special Volcano Desert. It is chocolate cake cut into 4 long pieces and shaped like a big volcano. They pour chocolate syrup on top and ice cream is in the middle. Basically, Jonathan's dream come true, as far as desserts! He loved it! All the waiters came and sang to him! He loved that too!!

Happy, silly boy with the tigers!

Keeping with our family tradition...We ate dinner at Rainforest Cafe and then went to the Photo Booth for a picture! The top pic was taken that night, 4/21/13. The second picture, with just Jonathan, Michael and me was taken 4/21/11, just a week before Ben was born!

This picture was taken on our first date! Back in Dec 1999!!! We were babies back then!!! We had eaten at the Rainforest Cafe, then we took this picture, then we went to see "The Sixth Sense" at the movie theater! (if you are thinking that you have seen this before, we using it on our 'save the date' cards before our wedding!
I love and treasure these photo booth photos! They have documented my adult life!

The Train Birthday Party

This year Jonathan requested a Train Birthday Party! I have been trying HARD to get him to agree to having a party anywhere else but at our house...last years two weekends in a row of large parties wore me out!!! But, I had no luck. He was very adamant on what he wanted. So Michael and I agreed to have one more at home party, and we would make a good one, but NO MORE after this! Thankfully, Jonathan agreed.

Very generously, Jonathan suggested that we celebrate Ben's birthday at the same time - "lets make it a double party!" :) He had no idea how relieved we were to hear him say this! Having 2 sons with their Birthday's 1 week apart, is always going to be a little challenging, but this year, Jonathan made that part easy on us!!!

I started planning back in January! I looked up "train party" on my favorite site, Pinterest. I found all sorts of cool ideas, but best of all, I saw something I had never seen before, a Trackless Train! I quickly went to Google.com and searched to see if such a thing existed in DFW!! I was surprised that 4 local companies offer the Trackless Train to come to your home!! So we reserved it right away!!! Pricing wise, it was only just a hair more expensive than renting a bounce house! Jonathan even got to pick what type of train he wanted, as there are several different options. I was pleased when he picked the "Vintage Steam Train", that was my favorite too!

With the parties main entertainment setup, we just had a few more things to plan...and finalize the guest list! The guest list just kept growing! We invited just over 115 people! Crazy right? Jonathan wanted both Pre-K classes at school, that is 16 kids each, plus their parents. Not to mention family, close friends and Ben's friends...it just was hard to draw the line, especially since we didn't have too! I am so happy who was able to come! The boys, Michael and I had such a good time! Thank you to everyone for coming!

The Trackless Train!! We rented it for an hour. The Conductor drove it up and down our street, carrying as many kids and adults as could fit! I believe Jonathan road every single ride! Ben road at least half of the time! It was so worth it! A beautiful & fun day with friends and family!

The train!!!

Some neighbors came out to see what was going on, the kids loved waving at them!

Jonathan's personal cake! I made both the boys cakes (but not the cupcakes). I tried making a train shaped cake, per Jonathan's request, but it wasn't turning out and I was out of time! So thankfully he liked the idea of M&M's on a small round cake and a train candle!!!

Benny's cake!

Me with the cakes!

Love J's smile! (Thank you Kathryn for taking these pictures!!!)
